Harvest Hunters English Springer Spaniels

SoBe doing get backs/ blind retrieves into the water.  First time out since whelping her litter of 8 puppies; not bad, I can not complain.  She will definitely be ready for the fall field trialing season and hunt tests.

The training in the field was going well this morning until I had to run Mighty on a check cord.  Now, the problem is that she is not a bad dog or anything; she just needs a gentle reminder to bring birds back to me.  She was running and found her clip wing pigeon, she went in hard and picked it up.  On her way back to me she dropped it and the pigeon flew a little ways.  This would not have been a problem except that the check cord had made a loop around my ankle and when she ran full steam (who would of thought a little 25lb could be so strong?) to retrieve the escaped pigeon that loop tightened…Yep, you guested it, I was flat on my back in 2 seconds.  My foot was literally pulled out from under me ( I hear from the guys that it was quite comical).  As I laid on the ground looking at the blue sky trying desperately to catch my breath I was wondering, “Where is the dog?” I was able to get the question out just in time for Mighty to be peering down at me from above with a pigeon in her mouth. Did I mention how much I HATE ROPES?

The house is full family for the weekend holiday.  We are all having a great time conversing around the fire and playing with puppies.  The babies will get plenty of attention with weekend for sure…I guarantee it.  Kahlua and Trixie schemed to pull down a tray full of cookies…they were successful….Aaron heard them outside so, they were not to stealthy in their attack.  I caught them red handed!  They were promptly grounded to their crates.

The puppies are all snuggled into momma’s utter with a mouth full of nipple drifting into sleep…yes, I can tell when they are sleeping even though their eyes are still shut.  They actively twitch in their dreams; how they get any actual sleep is beyond me.  I am going to try the unthinkable; I am going to let Mighty sleep with me tonight…pause for gasp….I think she can sleep through the night with out waking me up or walking on top of me….but, we will see.  I will have a full report for you in the morning.  As far as Mini and SoBe go, we will see if they are alright with a new bed buddy.  Mighty, SoBe, Mini, and Baker are lounging on the couches here in the living room.  The puppies in SoBe’s belly are very active; I gave Tim the report (he is away playing Army) and he is excited to meet them; we all are!

Here is a quick glimpse of what is going on here at the moment……..

SoBe pregnantSoBe is getting very big and her waddling is getting slower.  Her waist is now 27 inches around; her normal waist measurement is 14 inches.  She is having problems getting up on the bed and the couches so, now she is SoBe pregnantopting for the floor.  She pleads with me to pick her up and put her in the bed or on the couches; she is not use to having such a big belly to maneuver around.  She slept on her back with her legs in the air; I was able to place my hand on her tummy and feel the rambunctious puppies in her….they are definitely on the move! It will be exciting to welcome her first litter into the world.

I introduced the puppies (Mighty, Kane, and Beret) to the buoy launcher; it went great.  No worries of them being gun shy…wooh whooo!

Kane retrieving a clip wing pigeon.  The beginning of the video is me grabbing an aloof pigeon…..he had no idea what was his fate (the pigeon).

Tim was away this weekend for Army at Ripley so, I was able to get a bunch of training in with the puppies (Mighty, Kane, and Beret).  They are progressing wonderfully.  Beret is still a little challenging on her delivery but, we can fix that.  Kane is retrieving perfectly with a great delivery.  Mighty is a little stubborn; she still is working on coming straight back to me but, it is a lot better than it was before.  I was able to get two training sessions in on both Saturday and Sunday.  Tim came home with a car full of stuffed animals form a garage sale….they were free; I can’t argue with that price!  The puppies and dogs love it!  Tim suggested that we get a toy box for the living room; I think that he is right…you would think that we had kids or something…nope just 12 very loved dogs!  I got Mini’s name tattooed on my ribs this weekend; it turned out great! I am hoping to get out into the field this week; I am out of pigeons and I need to continue to train.  My goal is to have the puppies steadied by the end of the summer and running in the puppy stakes this fall….that is the goal anyways; we will see if they will cooperate!

Mighty decided to help clean“They are little thieves!”  That is the quote which is repeated consistently in our house by an irritated Tim.  The puppies (Mighty, Kane, and Beret) have a tendency to find missing socks and proudly share them with us; I guess that it is not only socks but, that is what erks my hubby the most.  I mean, I don’t mind it at all but, Tim does because they normally have his socks….it is comical when he is looking for a pair and only finds one…..he can getMighty and Beret a little frustrated.  I find socks in the couch cushions, in their crates, under the couches, in beds…everywhere!  There is a pile that Tim has started behind the TV of socks that have made their way from hamper to him via puppy mouth.  I do have to say that the puppies don’t search and destroy they just nonchalantly carry them in their mouths with a slight twinkle in their mischievous eyes. I just laugh…they are so good at finding random socks…I swear the Beret with hair cut...I don't know if possible but, she looks even smaller!house is a safe heaven for socks but, Mighty is very good at locating them ….she must have sock radar.  Where is she when I need her to find a missing sock; you know the one that you swear you washed and dried…the one the drier “ate”.  I need her to prance up to me with socks then, not when I am watching a movie.  Oh the joys of having multiple puppies at the same time; they are the love and joy of our lives!  Never a dull moment in the Gorecki house!
