Harvest Hunters English Springer Spaniels

The puppies all did GREAT with their pigeon retrieves today…..A little tear comes to my eye as they ALL picked it up and brought it back with their heads held high.  There are cries of loneliness coming from the dog room; the puppies were all put in individual crates for the night and they are not happy.  6 screaming little voices are drifting up the stairs; it is all I can do not to run down there and free them from their loneliness.  Tim reminds me that they need to learn to sleep alone.  It still pulls at my heart to hear them calling for each other; I know that they will cry themselves to sleep but, tomorrow night will be better.  Mighty had great fun with her pigeon retrieves today; she is a pro.  Time to move her outside for some longer ones.  Mini, SoBe, and Miata all trained in yard work today; need to get them in running shape for the season!

My house is full of puppy noises….I love it!  They romp, scamper, wrestle, and talk all while I do my home wrok…Nothing is more comforting to me.  I know that the noises are going to be cut in half in the near future.  They will be going to their new homes after their eye exam whhich is on Monday, August 31st.  BWhat I need to keep in mind is that I will have 3 of my own puppies that are not going anywhere!  I can have all the noises I want from them.  Mighty slept with Tim and I last night; she is a good sleeper.  She cuddles up by our heads and falls asleep.  Good snuggler.  The puppies had an accident last night but, besides that potty training is going well.  I did retreives with Mighty; fresh pigeon, she did great.  She is going to be a great trial dog…I can’t wait.  I wish that I could fastword the time to 4 months down the road when I can really start working with her in the field and see her potential!

Tim, Aaron, and I took the dogs swimming today at the local lake; Donut Lake.  Miata did buoy retrieves, so did SoBe.  Mini got a variety of land retrieves with water retrieves; I am trying to get her in shape for the field trialing season that is quickly approaching (to fast if you ask me).  A great group of people showed up on Sunday to train in Forada.  It was 5 fun filled hours of Springers doing what they do best……flushing, retrieving, and trailing out birds.  They tore up the field!  It was a great day; the weather was perfect with good wind.  Nothing I would rather be doing than training my poochies with a great group of guys (who tease me but, I am use to it); I have to admit I had it coming…I had my festive socks (aka; my Lucky Socks) socks on display, wearing shorts and all.  Mark and Diesel (Kahlua x Ace) did great at the fun trial….they placed 2nd in puppy stakes and 1st in the Novice…..Way to go Mark!

See….you don’t need to spend a lot on puppy toys;  you just need to look through your recycling bin!

O my stars the Game Fair was HOT today!  The temperatures reached to the high 80′s to low 90′s.  I wish I would of stayed at home like a bunch of people did today.  The puppies got man handled even if there did seem to be a lull of people today…I can’t blame them; I would want to be sitting in a nice air conditioned house sipping a frozen daiquiri in my skivvies, instead of baking in the sweltering heat.  My dogs at home were in their cool room relaxing all day while I sweated through my shirt.  Tim and I kept the puppies and Mini nice and wet all day ( I wish I could of hosed myself off).  I hope tomorrow is better…. I did wipe the dripping sweat out of my eyes long enough to see some grown Trixie puppies; they turned out great!  It is so exciting for me to see the creations that Trixie and the other dogs make turn into something wonderful that fulfills someones life!

Doing yard work with Miata (the dog), Kenny, Tim, and Missy.  These are board flushes; they are part of getting a dog steady…..if you have any questions post a comment at the end of the blog and I will answer them!

It looks like a pigeon exploded in my living-room and kitchen but, that is normal for this house. What most people might find gross; we find normal…like when you open the freezer and dead pigeons fall out or, a paper bag in the refrigerator full of feathery training tools (pigeons…again).  Our house is full of them.  Ask anyone who has been here; the “sky rats” are instrumental in training puppies; we start them young!  Bella (White Russian) went right over the the bird and picked it up with her head held high….she was so proud.  Colorado Bulldog was a little hesitant just like Kane (Jack Frost) and Beret(Tahitian Tea) but after a few seconds they were carrying them around too….doing retrieves; how exciting!  Firecracker was a natural; she picked it up and was carrying it around as well.  Mighty (my puppy) did 6 retrieves with the pigeon and then I called it good.

Beret (Tahitian Tea) carrying a toy around with her head up!  Very exciting; she is going to make a great retriever!

Here is video of the puppies out in their pen.  They are extemely active but, when I try to sneak up on them with the camera they all come romping to the pen door wanting out.  My new puppy, Mighty, is in the pen with them as well.  She plays with them and I have to say, the little guys hold their own with her.  Tahitian Tea (her name is Beret) chases after Mighty and plays rough. As you can see in the video, they have dug a spot away from the pen and the fence; they are trying to get to mama (Mini) in the big yard.  It is 90 degrees here so, Tim and I have been keeping the babies cool by wetting them down; it works great.  The potty training is going well; only a couple of nights so far have they had an accident!  They sleep in our room in a crate so, we can hear them when they wake up and need to go out.
